Belle Isle Campground

Belle Isle Campground offers a unique and remote escape located on the northeast end of Isle Royale National Park. Situated in Belle Harbor, this federal campground provides an authentic wilderness experience accessible exclusively by canoe, kayak, or private boat. It is a perfect destination for those seeking solitude and a deep connection with the pristine natural beauty of the Great Lakes region.

The campground features six shelters and provides a dock for overnight stays, with a normal water depth of 13 feet. While the site remains open year-round, visitors should note that a five-night stay limit is enforced from June 1 through Labor Day to help manage usage during the peak season. The area is ADA accessible, ensuring that the rugged beauty of the island remains available to a wider range of visitors.

This location is best suited for tent campers and paddlers who are comfortable with a moderate experience level and self-sufficient travel. Because there are no hookups available, it is not suitable for RV travelers. Whether you are arriving by sea kayak or private vessel, Belle Isle serves as an exceptional basecamp for exploring the isolated waterways of Isle Royale.
